Dumpster quotes for Providence, with the local rules up front
Tell us the size, the ZIP and when you need it. Your request goes to roll-off companies that work in Providence and the towns next to it, and they call or email you with a price.
Four local numbers shape a Providence quote. Most rental pages skip all of them:
- Permit
- Providence's code puts the dumpster permit on the company that provides the container, and it covers private property as well as the street. How placement works.
- 2-5 AM
- Street parking is banned from 2 to 5 AM without an overnight permit. A container in your driveway can push your car into a ticket. The fix.
- $115
- Per ton at the state landfill in Johnston, the commercial gate rate effective Nov 1, 2026, plus a $3 per ton fuel charge and $6 per truck. Heavy plaster jobs cost more for this reason. Landfill rates.
- 56%
- Share of homes in ZIP 02909 built in 1939 or earlier. Old walls are heavy. 02909 housing.
What people here usually pay
We do not set prices. Two rental companies published Providence prices when we checked on Nov 4, 2026. A national booking site listed $448 to $1,535, with $866 as its average. A Rhode Island company listed its 10-yard at $450 with 10 days and 1 ton included, and charges $150 for each extra ton. Treat those as a starting range. Weight, days and the permit move the final number.
How a request works
- You fill in the form. It takes about a minute and asks nothing you would not tell a hauler on the phone.
- We send it to up to three roll-off companies that serve your ZIP.
- They contact you with a price and a delivery date. You pick one, or none. You pay the company you choose, never us.
Before you call anyone, sort out these two things
Is the city's free pickup enough?
If you live in a building with 6 units or fewer, Waste Management collects up to 3 bulky items per unit for free when you book 24 hours ahead. A sofa, a dresser and a fridge do not need a dumpster. A gutted bathroom does. Compare the two.
Where will the container sit?
Measure the driveway or the curb space in front of the house. A 20-yard box is 14 feet long at one Rhode Island company and 22 feet at a national one, so the size name alone will not tell you if it fits. Sizes and lengths.
Who receives your request
The state landfill keeps a public list of haulers. Its October 2024 version names 44 companies, and 13 of them give an address in Providence, Cranston, Johnston, East Providence, North Providence or Pawtucket. That list covers all kinds of trash hauling, so not every name rents roll-offs. We send requests only to companies that do.
